For example, if one looks at a pottery horse
from the Han Dynasty [figure on the top left]
and compare its style to one from the Tang
Dynasty [figure on the top right], there are
noticeable differences.

The Han Dynasty horse is represented in an
abstract and rigid manner; real-life details
are not a major concern. To compensate for
the lack of details, bright and colourful
pigments are used, instead, to suggest
different and symbolic meanings.

A Tang Dynasty horse, on the other hand, is
represented with great emphasis on
