The Connoisseur - The Appreciation of Classical Ming Furniture
As an expert in Chinese antiques, I am
frequently asked what makes any one
particular antique more valuable than
another. This seemingly simple question is
in fact one of the most difficult to answer
as there is no straightforward definition of
value. The problem with antiques is that
different genres possess different criteria;
not to mention the historical and social
factors which affect the original artistic
representation.

In this month’s feature, I will look at
some of the considerations with respect to
the appreciation of classical Ming period
furniture.
