The Connoisseur - Chinese Antique Chairs
As an antiques dealer, I am often asked how to
differentiate good antiques from bad ones and
real ones from fakes. My answer is that it
is not easy. Acquiring the eye for high
quality involves a long process of training
and exposure to good quality antiques. Alert
observation is needed at all times.

A simple parallel is that a person who has
never been high up on a mountain cannot fully
understand the grandeur of a panoramic view.
Equally, of course, a person who has had the
opportunity to be on the mountain but who has
never paid attention to the view will not be
able to tell you much about what is there.

To understand Chinese antique furniture, we
need to expose ourselves to high-quality
