Media Release: Oi Ling Antiques Chinese Cultural Studies Centre
Oi Ling Antiques is delighted to announce the opening of its new ‘Chinese Cultural Studies Centre’ on Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong.
Located close to the Oi Ling Antiques gallery on Hollywood Road, the new library hosts Oi Ling’s vast collection of research materials and rare manuscripts. The collection of research materials in the library focuses on Chinese history, art and archaeology. Some of the book collections in Oi Ling's Chinese Cultural Studies Centre include two important academic journals - 文物 Wen Wu (Cultural Relics) and 考古 Kao Goo (Archaeology) – dating from the first date of publication in the 1950's continuously up to the current issue. None of the universities in Hong Kong has such a complete collection of these important journals.
In addition to these journals, the centre also has a large collection of books on Chinese arts and antiquities written by renowned sinologists of the early 20th century.
As well as the large collection of academic books and journals, the library also has an impressive collection of important rubbings from the Qing dynasty. One example is the 瘗鹤铭 (Yi Xue Ming) rubbing formerly in the collection of 梁啓超 (Liang Qi Chao). For scholars who want to study the close exchanges between Japanese and Chinese scholars in the late Qing dynasty, Oi Ling's library also has a collection of correspondence written by important political figures and scholars from both the China and Japan sides.
The main intent in setting up such a library is to inspire both interest and scholarship of the different aspects of the great Chinese heritage.
