Emperor of the Tang Dynasty

Birth and Death (599-649 AD). Date of Reign
(626-649 AD).
As the Sui Dynasty (581-618 AD) declined,
peasant insurrections broke out throughout
the empire. Seizing this opportunity and
supported by his ambitious second son, Li
Shimen/ Taizong, Li Yuan, usurped power and
gained control of the court and established
the Tang Dynasty in 618 AD.

Taizong eventually became the second Emperor
of the Tang Dynasty. He was recognized,
during his life time, as the “Celestial
Khan” by all the minority nomadic tribes
residing along the northern borders of China.
