Liang Yi Museum Talk
Oi Ling Chiang, founder of Oi Ling Antiques
gallery, will be joining Liang Yi Talks this
August to reveal the story behind "The King
of the Fanglei", an imposing bronze from the
Shang Dynasty (1600-1000BC). This
square-shaped wine vessel - comprised of a
body and lid - was found in 1922. Through an
unfortunate sequence of events, the body then
disappeared while the lid went ot the Hunan
Museum. 70 years later, the body was
rediscovered in Japan. Negotiations were
conducted to reunite the two but fell through
and the body alone was auctioned by Christie's
in 2001. This past March, the body of the
Fanglei came up for auction again, reigniting
the argument and debate on how to reunite the
two halves again.
