Hong Kong people today burn paper
representations of credit cards, mobile
phones and motor cars, (amongst other
things), the ancients placed in the tomb
representations of all manner of items from
horses, camels and oxen to court attendants,
musicians and huntsmen. Of this last
category, the spiritual meaning attached to
hunting in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) was
an important feature of burial and the theme
of hunting is a constant feature represented
in Tang tombs.

The most popular materials used to recreate
this ideal setting for the deceased are
stone, wood and terracotta. From the Qin
Dynasty (221-206 BC) onwards, terracotta was
the main medium used in large quantities for
