Li Jing (571-649 AD) is a historical figure
with numerous illustrious military
achievements during the early Tang period.
He was known for his solid training in
Confucian classics and genius in military
strategy.

Li Jing subjugated many major nomadic tribes
in the Tang border areas, turning them into
vassal states of the Tang Empire. In the
ode, he is portrayed as someone who
recognized Taizong as the Mandate of Heaven,
and therefore dedicated himself to assisting
Taizong to the throne.
