are considerably rarer and you will find the
execution of skill, carving, woodwork and
overall proportion to be of the highest
standard.

The type of wood is important, as different
woods have different qualities and behave
differently over time. And, significantly,
some woods are now extinct. The ‘ancient
treasured huanghuali wood’, for example,
can no longer be found in China. This means
any piece of furniture (or more
realistically, any scholar item) made of
huanghuali will be more valuable than a piece
made of a more commonly found woods. Important
woods in Chinese furniture include a
huanghuali, zitan, and tielimu.
