Han Infantry figurine
The soldier’s hair is fashioned in a bun with a cloth covering it, and the figurine is wearing a long open cross-collar shirt, with wide sleeves. The black paint on the torso of the figure represents armor, covering both the chest and back. The right arm is bent at the elbow with the right hand in a fist. The left arm hangs down.

This type of figurine is seen often in Shaanxi province, from the sites of Changling, Baling, Yangling and Maoling, in tombs of emperors, as well as some tombs of dukes or vassal kings, such as Shizishan in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province. Based on its similarity to the figurines found in the tombs listed above, as well as being very close in height to the figurines found in Changling, the infantry figurine that is featured in this article therefore ought to be dated to the Western Han period.

There are bright colors preserved on the figurine, such as red black and blue. The facial features of the figurine are clear, and the workmanship fine. The figurine offers important information on military apparel and ornaments of the Han dynasty.
