Just as Oi Ling is a connoisseur of furniture, her brother Fung Cheung is a master of conservation and preservation. F.C. lives near the family's workshop in Southwest China so that he can personally supervise the restoration of every item. The workshop employs nearly 40 skilled craftsmen, each with an average of 10 years of experience in traditional Chinese furniture-making techniques. When identifying a good piece of antique furniture Oi Ling first considers whether it is a worthwhile piece in terms of the overall aesthetic. This means the proportion, the overall style and whether or not the piece has a good 'pedigree'. |
